Gaura Purnima Festival 2012

Gaura Purnima Festival 2012 Gaura Purnima Festival 2012 The Appearance Day Of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu Date: 8TH March 2012, Thursday  Venue: Puduvai Tamil Sangam,  45 Feet Road, Venkata Nagar, Puducherry-605011   Caitanya Mahaprabhu is Sri Krishna Himself, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He appeared in the Kali Yuga (the present age), 526 years ago in 1486 AD, in the mood of His own greatest devotee, Srimati Radharani. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu appeared in this Yuga to demonstrate the means for the people to return to Godhead. In the present age of Kali, that began about 5000 years ago, people have short life spans, weak intellect and a propensity to quarrel and cheat. Out of compassion for the fallen souls in this age, Sri Krishna incarnated, as Caitanya Mahaprabhu, to establish the process of Sankirtan Yajna to help people return back, back to Godhead. Sankirtan is chanting the holy name of the Lord. It is the religion for this age. It can be done congregationally, as kirtans, or it can be done softly in solace, as Japa. Japa is the process of chanting the Maha-mantra:    Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare   on the 108 beads of the japa-mala. To enact His mission, He appeared with His associates. Thus Sri Krishna Caitanya is often worshipped in His form as Pancha-tattva, accompanied by His immediate expansions, Nityananda prabhu, Advaita acarya, Gadadhar pandit and Srivasa Thakura. Lord Chaitanya is most merciful feature. Therefore, even if one doesn’t understand Lord Chaitanya’s identity as the Supreme Lord, but accepts Him as a saintly person or as a social reformer and philosopher, one can still derive the highest benefit by chanting the names of God.                With great pleasure, ISKCON Puducherry invites everyone to celebrate the Gaura Purnima festival 2012 (the appearance day of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu) at Puducherry on 8th of March 2012, the festival will take place at Puduvai Tamil Sangam, 45 Feet Road, Venkata Nagar, Puducherry-605011 from 2.30 p.m onwards. His father, Sri Jagannatha Misra, a learned brahmana from the district of Sylhet, came to Navadvipa as a student because at that time Navadvipa was considered to be the center of education and culture. He domiciled on the banks of the Ganges after marrying Srimati Sacidevi, a daughter of Srila Nilambara Cakravarti, the great learned scholar of Navadvipa. Jagannatha Misra had a number of daughters by his wife, Srimati Sacidevi, and most of them expired at an early age. Two surviving sons, Sri Visvarupa and Visvambhara, became at last the object of their paternal affection. Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu exhibited His transcendental activities for forty-eight years...
